Adria Steel has initiated testing of the facilities at the former Željezara Split steel mill, thereby completing the production process in both production facilities of the mill: the steel mill and the rolling mill, the company reports.
– As in the case of the rolling mill, where the production of ribbed concrete steel successfully commenced in mid-last year, testing of the steel mill is very demanding as the facility has not been operational for nearly four years – says Adria Steel, owned by Petar Pripuz from the CIOS group.
In the first phase of testing, the steel mill facility was certified for the so-called ‘cold test’, and the next phase of testing is the so-called ‘hot test’, which involves the initiation of trial production – melting iron and casting steel beams – during which individual segments of the steel mill facility (electric arc and ladle furnace, casting ladle, continuous caster, and dust extraction system) are tested.
Once all machines and equipment have been inspected and certified, and after obtaining all necessary permits, regular production at the steel mill will commence. Currently, 140 workers are employed in the preparation of the steel mill facility and in production tasks at the renovated rolling mill, and with the start of production at the steel mill, a total of 200 workers are expected to be employed.
