Croatian Post should generate 25 percent of its revenue from services that do not yet exist by 2018, one of which could be the issuance of ID cards.
This was stated by Alen Premužak, CEO of Croatian Post, in an interview with Poslovni dnevnik, announcing a new shift in operations as the company ended 2012 with a loss of 27.9 million kuna, and projections for 2013 are not optimistic either. However, they emphasize from the Post Office that the idea of issuing ID cards will not come to fruition anytime soon.
– It is not developed; it is only mentioned as an example of what the Post Office might do in the future – they claim at Croatian Post. The Ministry of the Interior (MUP) states that there are no ‘legal possibilities for the Post Office to issue ID cards’.
– The Post Office could eventually, with significant changes to the legal framework and business process, be involved in the delivery of issued ID cards – says Dušan Miljuš, spokesperson for the MUP, adding that according to Article 6 of the Law on ID Cards, an ID card is issued only by the police administration or police station according to the applicant’s place of residence.
