Despite the economic crisis and the increase in the number of unemployed, over 14,000 job vacancies were posted on the MojPosao portal, which is a 17% increase compared to the same period last year.
The most sought-after professions in 2012 were: waiter, salesperson, cook, programmer, sales representative, accountant, commercialist, hairdresser, administrator, and field commercialist.
The highest supply and demand were recorded in the following categories of professions:
– Sales (Trade) – 24% of ads and 30% of resumes
– Tourism and hospitality – 18% of ads and 18% of resumes
– Administrative professions – 9% of ads and 22% of resumes
Considering the type of employment, a total of 52% of ads for permanent employment were posted in 2012, which is 3% less than in 2011 when 55% of ads referred to permanent employment. Additionally, 52% of ads offered the possibility of fixed-term employment.
Such indicators suggest an upcoming flexibilization of work planned through amendments to the Labor Law.
In 13% of the published ads, part-time workers were sought, and 6% of ads referred to student jobs (ads allow for the possibility of marking multiple types of employment for the same job).
On the other hand, 96% of job seekers were interested in permanent jobs, but more than half were also interested in part-time work (57%).
Almost a third (31%) were willing to work part-time, and 14% for seasonal jobs. From the available data, it is not possible to conclude whether these are job seekers looking for additional work or job seekers who, in the absence of employment, are looking for any job.
During 2012, employers most often sought candidates with secondary vocational education – in 51% of ads, secondary vocational education was a requirement for successful application.
On the other hand, 54% of job seekers indicated secondary vocational education as their level of education in their online resumes.
The number of ads and resumes requiring or indicating higher education amounted to 31% of ads and 21% of resumes.
Regarding foreign language proficiency, 41% of ads required knowledge of foreign languages.
In the majority of ads, advanced knowledge of English was required (58% of ads), while basic knowledge of English was required in 17% of ads. Compared to 2011, this is an increase since advanced English was required in 42% of ads. Other languages are less represented.
The highest number of job seekers in their online resumes indicates advanced knowledge of English (40%), while one-fifth (20%) indicates professional knowledge. Basic knowledge of English is indicated by 18% of job seekers.
German is the second most represented language – just over one-fifth of job seekers (22%) indicate basic knowledge of German. In third place is Italian, which 10% of job seekers have basic knowledge of.
Compared to last year, employers are seeking IT skills less. In nearly a third of ads (28%), knowledge of computer work is required, while in 2011, it was required in just over a third of ads (31%).
Of the ads that require knowledge of computer work, the majority require knowledge of Word (91%) and Excel (89%).
In half of the ads, work experience was required (48%), averaging 2 years and eight months.
