The tender for the preparation of a pre-study on connecting southern Croatia with the rest of the country will be announced by the end of this year, and the study, co-financed by the European Commission with 200,000 euros, should be completed by the end of May, stated the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Siniša Hajdaš-Dončić, in Brussels.
The pre-study should show the best connection for southern Croatia – the Pelješac Bridge, a corridor through Neum, or a ferry connection. It is worth noting that Hrvatske ceste has already prepared a draft of the new Pelješac Bridge, which still needs to be approved in Brussels. The most important feature is that the new project is nearly one billion kuna cheaper than the old one. The bridge will be narrower, with two traffic lanes, and possibly lower. The completion of the entire project will require about 350 million euros, which is 134 million less than the old project.
