Former workers of Jadrankamen from Pučišća on Brač started a protest early this morning on the plateau in front of the factory under the motto ‘Enough is Enough’, and afterwards the protesters will head to the municipal building, as learned from Tonči Drpić of the Independent Union of Jadrankamen.
Drpić told Hina that their intention is to ‘alert and encourage everyone to react to the institutions of the system through the protest, all in order to prevent further plundering of Croatia’s mineral wealth.’ He added that Jadrankamen is being systematically destroyed. ‘Our goal is the final eradication of corruption and crime that has found fertile ground in the municipal building of Pučišća,’ asserted Drpić.
Currently, about twenty former workers are at the protest, as well as an equal number of police securing the factory, and later the municipal building. The former workers of Jadrankamen reported the protest to the police in a timely manner.
The workers of Jadrankamen from Pučišća have been protesting intermittently for a year. It started with unpaid wages, continued with the bankruptcy of the company, and the appointment of bankruptcy administrators. The workers have been continuously speaking about illegal privatization, calling on the state to save Jadrankamen. The last time they protested in this year was in front of the factory at the end of November for two days.
