Following the Russian ruble, the Chinese yuan could soon be included in the official exchange rate list of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), announced Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) on Tuesday.
The possibility of adding China’s national currency to the NBS exchange rate list was indicated by officials from the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS).
– The Serbian Chamber of Commerce will officially propose that trade transactions and investments between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia be settled in yuan and dinars – said Milanka Stojaković from PKS, responsible for monitoring economic cooperation with China, to RTS.
In early October 2012, by decision of the Executive Board of the Serbian National Bank, the Russian ruble was added to the currencies on the NBS exchange rate list, but there have been no official announcements until now that the Chinese yuan could receive the same status. The Russian ruble is on the list of foreign currencies that banks in Serbia can trade, and it is also on the list of effective foreign money for buying and selling in authorized exchange offices in Serbia.
– The inclusion of the Russian ruble on the list of currencies traded on the foreign exchange market of the Republic of Serbia will enable financial transactions in this currency, thereby facilitating and further enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the real and financial sectors – announced the National Bank of Serbia in October.
