The Maritime Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina based in Sarajevo announced on Tuesday that it will initiate an international lawsuit against Croatia to prevent the construction of the Pelješac Bridge and to secure the possibility of free access to the open sea for that country, media in BiH reported.
At a forum of the Council of Bosniak Intellectuals on the maritime character of BiH, academician Ibrahim Bušatlija, a member of the Maritime Society of BiH, stated that Croatia has, contrary to international regulations, prevented BiH from having free access to the open sea.
– We will go to international arbitration, whether our country wants it or not. We will sue Croatia for obstructing our ‘Adriatic facade,’ emphasized Bušatlija. He explained that the Maritime Society will collect signatures from citizens and donations to initiate an international dispute against Croatia.
During the forum of the Council of Bosniak Intellectuals, a conclusion was accepted to initiate an initiative in the BiH parliament for the adoption of a declaration to declare Bosnia and Herzegovina a maritime country, to prepare a draft maritime law, and to request a permanent ban on the construction of the Pelješac Bridge.
Participants of the forum also criticized the authorities of BiH, emphasizing that they do not pay attention to the request for access to the open sea.
