Strauss-Kahn Paid the Maid

A secret financial agreement has concluded the affair between former International Monetary Fund President Dominique Strauss-Kahn and the maid who accused him of sexual assault in a New York court.

“We have resolved this affair with the agreement,” said Judge Douglas McKeon after a very brief court hearing in the Bronx, emphasizing that the terms of the agreement are “confidential.”

Nafissatou Diallo, the maid of Guinean origin, is a “brave woman who never lost faith in the judicial system. With this resolution, she can now continue her life,” said her attorney Kenneth Thompson.
Strauss-Kahn was not present at the hearing as it was not required by the judge, and his lawyers stated they were “satisfied with the agreement.” The judge reported that at the same hearing, Diallo also resolved a dispute with the New York Post newspaper through a financial agreement, against which she had filed a civil lawsuit for treating her as a prostitute.

Given the confidentiality of the agreement, the media speculates about the amount Strauss-Kahn is obligated to pay. His attorney William Taylor dismissed as “completely inaccurate” the information regarding six million dollars. The former maid Diallo filed a rape accusation against Strauss-Kahn in a New York hotel 19 months ago. This highly publicized affair ended his ambitions to run for President of France, forced him to resign as IMF president, and led to his divorce from his wife, French journalist Anne Sinclair.

Strauss-Kahn has never explained what happened on May 14 last year in his room at the Sofitel hotel in New York. The maid accused him of coming out of the bathroom naked and forcing her to perform oral sex, and she reported him to the police, who arrested him a few hours later at the airport. He had to remain in New York under house arrest, but three months later, there was a turn of events when the prosecution dropped the charges. Nafissatou Diallo was deemed unreliable as she had repeatedly lied about her past.
