The European Union, which will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Monday, will emerge from its current crisis strengthened and become a ‘symbol of hope,’ said its president Herman Van Rompuy on Sunday, the day before the ceremonial Nobel Prize award in Oslo.
– We want Europe to once again become a symbol of hope – he said at a press conference at the Nobel Institute. – The EU is going through a difficult period – said Van Rompuy, adding that he is ‘confident it will succeed and emerge from uncertainty and recession much stronger than before’.
About twenty European leaders, including Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanović, will attend the ceremonial Nobel Prize award in Oslo on Monday, which British Prime Minister David Cameron will not attend.
