Today, the situation has completely changed, and most advanced smartphone models introduced this year have screen diagonals between 4.5 inches (with rare exceptions like the iPhone and HTC 8X) and 5.5 inches, which is the screen diagonal of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2, reports Dnevnik.hr.
Although one might think that a smartphone with a 5.5-inch screen would be too large and inconvenient for everyday use, Samsung states that the sales of Note 2 are excellent as it has attracted users who could not decide between buying a smartphone and a tablet – which is why this group of devices is called phablets.
The Galaxy Note 2 will soon face a major competitor from Huawei, which is expected to introduce ‘the strongest smartphone in the world’ with a 1.8GHz quad-core processor and a screen diagonal of as much as 6.1 inches at the beginning of next year, according to Tech Radar. The first rumors about this phone appeared online back in October, but there was no official information for a long time, and BGR.com reports that this week Yu Chengdong from Huawei confirmed that his company is working on such a device.
