The Mayor of Prelog, Dragutin Glavina (HNS), stated today that this city, organized according to all Central European standards, particularly prides itself on an economy that seems to have been spared by the crisis.
Speaking at the ceremonial session of the City Council during the celebration of City Day, Glavina mentioned that other parts of the country are ‘struggling with the pervasive crisis’, while it seems that this Međimurje city has been spared.
– The vast majority of companies in this area are recording positive business results, and both domestic and foreign investments in the northern business zone continue – he emphasized, adding that an Austrian shoe manufacturer is building a factory that will employ 220 people in the first phase, thus further reducing unemployment, which is lower than the county and national average.
For its birthday, Prelog received 900 artworks donated to the city by Matija Berljak, a Zagreb canon and university professor born in the Prelog suburb of Cirkovljan.
On this occasion, a donation agreement was signed today in the city hall, and Prof. Berljak among other things stated that he did not decide to donate the artworks just because he was born in Lower Međimurje, but to make everyone a little happier and a little richer. The paintings, sculptures, drawings, editions, maps, books, and documents that Prof. Berljak has collected over the years will be housed in the renovated Cultural Center in Prelog.
