The European Commission has accepted a proposal for a law on women’s quotas in company boards, under which companies in the Union will face penalties if they do not reserve at least 40 percent of board seats for women.
In fact, men dominate the boards of European companies, accounting for 86.5 percent, and the situation is not significantly different in Croatia. However, the question arises whether such an ultimatum is a ‘disservice’ to women? Experts we spoke with assert that efforts must be made to equalize the representation of women in leadership positions with those held by men, but they also emphasize that the most productive mix for the business world is a combination of male and female characteristics.
