In Croatia, the activities of providing accommodation, preparing and serving food, as well as travel agencies and tour operators generated 19.1 billion kuna in financial revenues in the first nine months of this year, which is about 600 million kuna or 3.2 percent more than in the same period last year, reported the Ministry of Tourism citing data from the Tax Administration.
The highest revenue was generated in hotels and similar accommodation facilities, amounting to 8.7 billion kuna or nearly 7 percent more than last year.
Other categories also recorded revenue increases in the first nine months of this year, with tour operators up by 15.5 percent, camps and camping sites by 10.7 percent, while resorts and similar short-stay facilities, as well as restaurants and food preparation and serving establishments, had revenues up by 3 percent each. In other food preparation and serving activities, a 19.1 percent increase in revenue was noted, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
Regarding employment in the sector, they highlight data from the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) for the first ten months of this year (from January to the end of October), indicating that there were 15.8 thousand newly employed in tourism during this period.
This represents an increase of 8.5 percent compared to the same period last year, and they add that during this period, newly employed individuals in tourism activities accounted for nearly 55 percent of the total number of newly employed persons.
Seasonally employed workers in tourism in the first ten months of this year numbered 10.7 thousand, or 9.5 percent more than last year, which represents a share of 59 percent of the total number of seasonal employees in the ten months of this year.
