Italy Finds a Way to Encourage Small Companies to Go Public

Italy plans to drastically reduce the costs of listing small and medium-sized enterprises on the stock exchange, the head of the stock market regulator said in an interview on Monday.

– The project should be completed very soon, possibly within a few months – said Giuseppe Vegas, president of Consob, to the Milan daily Corriere della Sera.
On the Milan Stock Exchange, a member of the London Stock Exchange group, shares of 324 companies are listed, which is small compared to the size of the Italian economy, which consists mainly of small family businesses. Their shares are not listed on the stock exchange.
Vegas stated that the goal of the plan is to reduce listing costs ‘through the engagement of specialized investment funds that would provide management services or financial support’, and through eased regulatory requirements for a period of three years.
