Minister of Environmental Protection and Nature Mihael Zmajlović has sent a letter to the representative office of Rafinerija Brod requesting an urgent statement from the management regarding the latest data from the State Hydrometeorological Institute dated November 22 on air pollution in Slavonski Brod.
In the letter addressed to the Rafinerija representative, Minister Zmajlović, along with the data from the State Hydrometeorological Institute, notes that citizens have confirmed that it is visible that smoke is coming out of the chimney of Rafinerija Brod despite the fact that it was confirmed by the Refinery at the beginning of the month that maintenance is taking place from November 10 until the end of the year, the Ministry reported today.
The Ministry expects to receive a response in the first working days of the week and emphasizes that it will inform the media and citizens of Slavonski Brod about the content of the response and other steps it will take. The data from the State Hydrometeorological Institute dated November 22, which the Ministry attached, indicates that it is evident that the concentrations of pollutants in Slavonski Brod have risen again, that the average daily concentration of hydrogen sulfide has increased, and that elevated concentrations of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide occurred simultaneously, and according to the analysis, high concentrations appeared during the southwest wind flow, indicating a source from the refinery in Brod.
