Zagreb police have arrested a 47-year-old employee of Hrvatski Telekom suspected of leaking information about the locations where telecommunications cables are installed, which were subsequently stolen.
Unofficially, it is reported that the value of the stolen cables is around 50,000 kuna. Without disclosing the name of the company where he is employed or the identity of the 47-year-old, the police reported that after a criminal investigation, the suspect was charged with abuse of position and authority.
After the criminal investigation, the 47-year-old was taken to the so-called detention unit in Zagreb’s Sjenjak, where he was handed over to the detention supervisor. The investigating judge will decide whether to keep him in one-month pre-trial detention.
The official police report states that the 47-year-old leaked privileged information to individuals who, based on that information, committed criminal acts of theft, attempted theft, and aggravated theft. The suspect allegedly provided information about the locations where cables would be installed to an acquaintance, who then passed it on to the thieves. One attempted theft was unsuccessful, while they managed to obtain valuable loot on two occasions.
