Favorite Target of Domestic Robbers: Splitska Bank

Due to the increase in the number of robberies in banks and other financial institutions, the magazine Zaštita organized the 2nd regional conference SigBank.

Brane Bertoncelj from the Bank of Slovenia discussed the security challenges in the operations of Slovenian banks before and after entering the EU.

-These are challenges that are different from those of the past, primarily characterized by significant changes in the way banks operate, globalization, and international interdependence in the field of security. Changes are rapid, complex, unstable, and difficult to predict. It is characteristic of today’s banking operations that threats, dangers, and risks are increasingly personalized, and the only constant in considering security is change, Bertoncelj believes, concluding that we have entered a very sensitive period of risks that are inherently embedded in the concept of societal development. Dario Hodak from the Ministry of the Interior presented a statistical overview of criminal acts of robbery committed in the Republic of Croatia. The most vulnerable has been Splitska Bank in the last three years, where nearly a third of the total 54 robberies occurred.

Following it are OTP Bank, PBZ, Erste Bank, Zaba, Hypo Bank, RBA, and Volksbank. The president of the Croatian Banking Association, Zoran Bohaček, announced in his opening speech that HUB expects the best law so far. “The new law being prepared at the Ministry of the Interior is being developed in a better way than was the case with the old one. For the new law, an impact assessment is being conducted, while for the existing one, an effectiveness analysis is being carried out, where social and economic analysis are important. In this context, alongside personal security, the employment of security guards is precisely that social element that combines with purely economic elements. However, the fact is that despite the increase in the number of robberies by 2.5 times, the amount stolen per robbery has been halved because there is less and less cash in the branches,” said Bohaček.
