Such a sentence is within the expected range, but now the question is how long it will hold in the appellate process? – comments the ruling of the County Court under which Ivo Sanader received a 10-year prison sentence in the Hypo and Ina-Mol case, political analyst Davor Gjenero.
It is very likely that the cumulative sentences of this case, as well as the Fimi Media case, and perhaps the Planinska case, which are conditionally speaking legally simpler and more valuable than this one, will go for assessment before the Supreme Court, so there are greater chances of survival than if the ruling were decided separately, Gjenero emphasizes.
As for the international reaction, the analyst says, the milk has already been spilled and damage to Croatia’s reputation has been done, which we have already paid during negotiations with the European Union and in terms of credit rating.
Therefore, we are already perceived as a country where the political elite itself is corrupt, but all this can only bring improvement in the sense that Croatia is becoming a country that fights its own corruption.
-It is important to emphasize that the process against Sanader was not initiated by this government, which could be suspected of retaliation in that case, but by the former one, led by Jadranka Kosor, concluded Gjenero.
