Workers of the Rijeka 3. Maj are outraged by the behavior of the majority owner – the state, and discussions about restructuring are ongoing without results, said David Bregovac, president of the Workers’ Council, at a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s workers’ gathering.
Bregovac emphasized that every new government shifts the blame for problems in shipbuilding onto its predecessors, while the workers of 3. Maj believe that the shipyard could operate without losses if the owner changes its neglectful attitude.
– Our shipyard must not be destroyed nor should it be allowed to collapse due to negligence and inactivity – said Bregovac, highlighting that the shipyard has the expertise, knowledge, and skills necessary for survival.
He believes that the European Union should be asked for and granted a transitional period for shipyards, and that 3. Maj should be provided with new jobs. In addition to the lack of new ship contracts, for which the Workers’ Council holds the management responsible, Bregovac also pointed out the basic problems of 3. Maj, including issues with achieving plans and deadlines in ship construction, restructuring that has not been implemented, and privatization, a topic on which they have no information other than from the media.
