Qatar is interested in long-term gas supply and the construction of an LNG terminal in Croatia, said Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Čačić.
A final agreement on Qatari investment could be reached by the visit of Qatari Emir Hamad al-Thani to Rijeka in the spring of next year, said the Deputy Prime Minister of the Croatian government and Minister of Economy Radimir Čačić, who leads the economic part of the Croatian delegation currently in Qatar as part of a multi-day official visit by President Ivo Josipović. One of the main topics of discussion between Croatian officials and their Qatari hosts is Qatar’s participation in the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on Krk, valued at around 600 million euros. Čačić stated that during meetings with Qatari officials, a key element for Croatia in this visit was confirmed, namely Qatar’s readiness and interest to support the LNG project long-term over 25 years.
“What is indisputable is that this project needs to be defined, started, financially closed, and that no one can stop it within three years,” said Čačić. He also mentioned that the Qataris have shown interest in other energy projects, such as hydropower plants, as well as projects in tourism.
