None of the three candidates in the presidential elections in Slovenia received the necessary majority of votes. In the second round, in three weeks, the current president Danilo Türk and former prime minister Borut Pahor will compete for that position.
Pahor received 41.9 percent of the votes, Türk 37.2, and Milan Zver, the candidate closest to Prime Minister Janez Janša’s government, 20.8 percent. This was shown by the results of the exit poll conducted by the Mediana agency for Slovenian television and POP-TV published at 7 PM, immediately after the polls closed.
Pahor has already thanked everyone who supported him. The campaign continues for the next three weeks, and the second round of elections for the Slovenian president will be held on December 2.
Winning in the first round of elections has only been achieved so far by the first Slovenian president Milan Kučan in 1992 and 1997, and the late Janez Drnovšek in 2002, while the current president Danilo Türk received the necessary majority of votes only in the second round in 2007.
