In the first nine months of this year, 51.8 million vehicles traveled on highways in Croatia, which is a decrease of 1.24 percent compared to the same period last year.
However, revenues from toll collection increased by 3.14 percent, reaching 1.7 billion kuna (excluding VAT), according to data published by the Croatian Association of Toll Road Concessionaires (HUKA). Among the four highway concessionaire companies, a decline in traffic was recorded on the highways managed by Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) and Autocesta Rijeka-Zagreb (ARZ), but these two companies raised toll prices at the beginning of June, resulting in both recording revenue growth.
In the first nine months of this year, HAC recorded a total traffic of 25.27 million vehicles, which is 3.3 percent less than in the January-September period of last year. HAC’s toll revenue simultaneously increased by 2.02 percent, to just over one billion kuna. The concessionaire ARZ collected 386.9 million kuna in tolls in the first nine months, which is an increase of 2.01 percent year-on-year, despite a 1.45 percent decrease in vehicle traffic, or just over 15.1 million vehicles.
