New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has come up with a way to reduce lines at gas stations in the city. He devised an ‘odd-even’ variant similar to that in former Yugoslavia when there was a fuel shortage.
Due to the fuel shortage, as only 25 percent of gas stations are operational in New York, there have been enormous lines where people wait for hours to purchase fuel, Bloomberg has created a similar odd-even variant.
Some gas station owners say there are dissatisfied citizens who stand in line only to find out that they cannot buy fuel until tomorrow. Taxis and emergency services are exempt from this measure.
Last year, ‘odd-even’ driving was implemented for two days in Rome due to dangerously high levels of air pollution.
