Vegetable production up 32 percent

Average producer prices of cereals in the second quarter of this year were lower compared to the same period last year by 13.1 percent.

High growth, by 32.4 percent, is recorded for producer prices of vegetables, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

The quarterly price index statistics in agriculture show that average producer prices of agricultural products in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year were higher by 1.4 percent.

At the same time, prices of livestock, poultry, and livestock products were higher by 3.6 percent, while prices of plant products decreased on average by 1 percent.

However, regarding producer prices of plant products, the statistics in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year record significant differences, from a decrease in cereal prices by 13.1 percent to a high increase in vegetable prices by 34.4 percent.

Along with cereals, producer prices of flowers and seedlings were also lower than in the second quarter of last year, by 10.1 percent, and forage crops by 1.4 percent.

On the other hand, fruit prices in the second quarter of this year were higher by 4.5 percent compared to the same period last year, potato prices (including seed) by 3.5 percent, and producer prices of olive oil increased by 5.6 percent.

Statistics in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year record an increase in producer prices of livestock, poultry, and livestock products by 3.6 percent.

For live cattle, prices of pigs increased by 11.8 percent, cattle by 9.4 percent, sheep and goats by 4.5 percent, while poultry prices decreased by 1 percent, horses by 4.5 percent, and prices of livestock products fell by 2.6 percent.

Producer prices of milk in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year were lower by 3.1 percent, while prices of table eggs increased by 1.4 percent.

Prices of goods and services for current use in agricultural production in the second quarter increased by 3.7 percent year-on-year.

At the same time, prices of energy and lubricants were higher by 12.4 percent, and seeds and planting material by 9.2 percent.

Farmers in the second quarter also paid more for fertilizers, animal feed, and veterinary services, as fertilizer prices were 7.4 percent higher than in the second quarter of last year, animal feed by 1.6 percent, and veterinary services by 1.4 percent.
