Spain has become the eleventh country in the world to approve the marriage of same-sex couples.
The Spanish Constitutional Court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal by the People’s Party seeking to determine the constitutionality of the law legalizing same-sex marriage,
The Spanish Constitutional Court made this decision seven years after the submission of the PP’s complaint, which stated in its appeal that this law is not in accordance with the Constitution and that it violates the fundamental norms of marriage.
The law legalizing same-sex marriage in Spain was passed in 2004 during the rule of the Socialist Workers’ Party led by Prime Minister Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and since then, 22,442 same-sex marriages have been concluded in Spain. The first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage was the Netherlands in 2001.
