Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney conceded defeat in the U.S. presidential election and called President Barack Obama to congratulate him on his victory.
This is a moment of great challenges for America, and I pray that the president is successful in leading our nation, Romney said, adding that the country must unite to face the challenges ahead.
We expect Democrats and Republicans at all levels of government to put the people before politics, he stated. I believe in America, I believe in the American people, he added.
Romney thanked his family and everyone who supported him and expressed sadness over not having the opportunity to lead the country. Paul and I gave our all to this campaign… I wanted so much to fulfill your hopes, Romney said in a brief address to voters at his campaign headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.
