Today, around 20 workers gathered in front of the Osijek Brewery, who claim that the Management has placed them on ‘minimum wage’ as unassigned and informed them that they do not have to come to work, while hiring workers with fixed-term contracts for their positions.
The President of the Workers’ Council, Mirela Lozančić, stated that the Management, with the explanation that it is a reorganization and restructuring of the company, decided that a total of 55 workers with indefinite contracts are no longer obliged to come to work, and those workers who came to work today were denied entry into the company.
She announced that the Workers’ Council will first submit a request for the protection of rights, and afterwards a lawsuit if the employer does not withdraw this decision.
She mentioned that she requested from the Management a report on the restructuring of the company and an explanation for such a decision, as the results indicate that the company is operating positively, but they did not receive a response.
The former President of the Workers’ Council, Darko Andrašek, called the Management’s decision illegal and unacceptable, to which, as he claims, the Workers’ Council also warned the Management.
The head of the county office of the Croatian Union of Trade Unions (HUS), Anto Bošnjak, stated that workers have been unsuccessfully trying to establish a dialogue with the Management for a long time and that it is not possible for workers with fixed-term contracts to replace those with indefinite contracts.
He added that HUS advised the Workers’ Council to seek legal assistance from labor law experts and it is expected that they will do so.
