Decline in Car Sales by 36.4 Percent

In October, 1,997 new passenger cars were sold in Croatia, which is 230 vehicles more than in September, but 1,145 fewer compared to October 2011, according to data from the agency Promocija plus based on new car registrations.

In October, new car sales increased by 13 percent on a monthly basis, but fell by 36.4 percent year-on-year. In the first ten months of this year, 28,398 new cars were sold in Croatia, which is 7,553 vehicles, or 21 percent less compared to the January-October period of last year.

The best-selling car brand in Croatia in the first ten months is Volkswagen with 3,902 vehicles and a market share of 13.7 percent. Peugeot follows with 2,511 cars and a share of 8.8 percent, while Opel is third with 2,393 vehicles and a market share of 8.4 percent.

More than two thousand new vehicles were sold in the first ten months of this year by Citroen (2,119) and Renault (2,070), and the list of the ten best-selling brands also includes Hyundai, Chevrolet, Škoda, Kia, and Ford. According to Promocija plus, during the January-October period of this year, 941 cars with the Audi badge were sold, 661 cars with the BMW badge, 252 Mercedes, 37 Land Rovers, and 33 Porsches.

Among the brands from the upper price range are, for example, Lexus cars, of which a total of 16 were sold in Croatia in ten months, and with one vehicle sold, Cadillac and Jaguar made the list, with the only specimen sold in October.

The best-selling models in ten months are the Opel Astra with 1,143 vehicles sold and the Volkswagen Polo with 1,028 vehicles sold. Following these models are the Volkswagen Golf (887 vehicles sold), Citroen C4 (886), and in fifth place, the Opel Corsa (826).
