The system for collecting traffic fines using POS terminals has been operational since September 7, allowing traffic offenders to pay fines by card. The Minister of the Interior, Ranko Ostojić, signed a contract with the Financial Agency, which will further seek partners among card-issuing banks.
So far, only a contract has been signed between Fina and the Croatian Postal Bank, and the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) reports that similar contracts are being prepared with RBA, ErsteCard Club for accepting Diners, Discovery, and JCB cards, as well as with PBZ Card for accepting American Express cards. To date, 50 POS terminals have been procured for the MUP and 10 for customs. They are used in all interceptors, vessels that set sail, and in vehicles for monitoring freight traffic. Additionally, the MUP is developing a mobile application for issuing misdemeanor tickets to eliminate the need for
manual completion. The contract with Fina also enables the use of POS devices alongside computers, and they are planned to be introduced for administrative tasks. When this happens, citizens will be able to pay all fees directly at the counter when submitting requests for document issuance, the MUP emphasizes.
