The value of construction works carried out by workers of Croatian construction companies at construction sites in 2011 amounted to 16.78 billion kuna, which is 6.1 percent, or 1.08 billion kuna lower than in 2010, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) from the annual report on construction works in the Republic of Croatia.
This report covers data on legal entities in the construction industry with five or more employees, where, according to DZS data, an average of 50,218 workers were employed last year, which is a decrease of 9.3 percent or 5,175 workers compared to the average in 2010. Compared to 2010, the number of hours worked at construction sites also decreased last year by 9.5 percent, to 94.7 million working hours.
Of the total value of construction works carried out by workers of Croatian construction companies at construction sites in 2011, more than half, or 62.3 percent, or 10.4 billion kuna, relates to new construction works. Compared to 2010, this amount decreased by 7.3 percent. The value of works on reconstructions, adaptations, repairs, and maintenance decreased by 3.9 percent compared to 2010, to 6.3 billion kuna. By types of buildings, 49.2 percent of the value of completed works, or 8.2 billion kuna, was achieved on buildings, while 50.8 percent, or 8.5 billion kuna, relates to works on other structures.
The value of works on buildings compared to 2010 fell by 11.5 percent, primarily due to a sharper decline in the value of works on non-residential buildings, by 16.1 percent, to 5.5 billion kuna. Construction works on residential buildings last year were valued at 2.7 billion kuna, which is 0.4 percent less than in 2010. For other structures, the statistics recorded a decrease in the value of works by 0.2 percent.
