Walt Disney, one of the largest entertainment production companies in the world, has acquired the production house Lucasfilm, founded by director George Lucas, which is behind the iconic Star Wars films for four billion dollars.
The film studio established by the famous Walt Disney will pay Lucas half of the money in cash while the remainder will be paid in shares. Disney immediately announced that the seventh installment of the Star Wars series will be released by 2015, followed by the eighth and ninth installments.
– For the past thirty-five years, one of my greatest dreams has been to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to new generations. Now the time has come to hand that torch to a new generation of filmmakers. I am confident that with Disney’s organization, Lucasfilm will flourish for all new generations – said Lucas.
The famous director founded ‘Lucasfilm Limited’ in 1971 in San Francisco. This company is best known for the iconic series ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Indiana Jones’, and under its umbrella, the famous film ‘American Graffiti’ was also produced.
It is speculated that George Lucas will remain involved in production as a consultant for the seventh installment of Star Wars, while the new president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, will produce the film.
