About fifty workers from the Split Constructor, who started a protest in front of the company’s administrative building at seven this morning due to the non-payment of six salaries, ended their protest after two and a half hours.
Towards the end of the protest, they entered the administrative building together with journalists, where they spoke with the union representative of the Independent Union of Construction Workers in Constructor, Bartul Bekavac.
– The construction union does not stand behind this protest. We have presented our demands to the CEO and announced that if they are not met, we will start a strike at all construction sites on Monday. Our demands are compiled in seven points, including the payment of one salary by Friday and two more by mid-November. The CEO Željko Žderić has responded to this, and if the membership does not agree with this or the director does not comply with our points, we will go on strike – said Bekavac.
The workers are demanding that the management pay them six salaries, bonuses, severance pay, and that they pay contributions for the last two years.
In response to a journalist’s question about whether it is true that Constructor is failing, Bekavac replied that the company is in a difficult situation and that there are no resources at the construction sites, all conditioned by a lack of finances.
The CEO of Constructor, Željko Žderić, was not available today as he is on a business trip.
