One of the most influential American newspapers, the New York Times, announced in its editorial on Sunday that it supports Barack Obama in the election for American president.
The prestigious paper explained that it supports Obama because he has, among other things, implemented the largest healthcare reform since 1965, prevented a new Great Depression, and ended the war in Iraq. The Times also praises the growth of civil rights during his first term, highlighting the end of the exclusion of homosexuals from the military and support for same-sex marriage.
Although this support is not surprising, as the NYT has not endorsed a Republican presidential candidate since Dwight Eisenhower in 1956, it is certainly important for Obama as it comes from one of the most significant media outlets in the country.
