The councilors of the Istria County Assembly unanimously accepted the conclusions proposed by County Prefect Ivan Jakovčić at tonight’s thematic session in Pazin, where the construction of the Plomin C Thermal Power Plant was discussed. The conclusions call on the Government to respect the county’s Spatial Plan, which stipulates that the energy source for the power plant should be gas, and to hold a referendum on Plomin C.
Expressing regret that representatives from the Ministries of Environment and Economy did not attend tonight’s county assembly session, Istrian County Prefect Jakovčić informed the councilors that on October 25, he sued the Ministry of Environment and Nature on behalf of Istria County at the Administrative Court in Rijeka.
According to him, Istria County has determined that this ministry has made a series of omissions and, as he said, ‘incorrectly established factual states, violated procedural rules, and violated material rights.’
– ‘I believe that the message Istria is sending to the Croatian Government is exceptionally clear. Dialogue has no alternative; our positions are clear,’ said Jakovčić, adding that ‘the colors of the coalition in Istria and in the Government are the same, but that does not mean that the interests are the same.’
– ‘The interests are obviously different, and that is not surprising. We have the right to our position, which is transparent and proactive,’ Jakovčić stated, adding that regardless of any law, including the energy law, ‘the Government has all the possibilities to forcibly build the Plomin C power plant on coal.’
‘Coal is not an option in this case. We will fight for gas with all available political means, primarily for the health of citizens and future generations,’ concluded Jakovčić, adding that the energy law is not decisive in this case.
All council clubs in the county assembly supported the conclusions of County Prefect Ivan Jakovčić during the discussion. A total of 33 out of 41 councilors were present at the session. The session was also attended by the CEO of HEP, Zlatko Koračević, with associates.
