On October 26, Goldoni’s comedy directed by Saša Broz – ‘The Imaginary Invalid’ will premiere at the Rijeka HNK Ivana pl. Zajca.
This is the first premiere of Italian drama this year. The lead role of Rosaura, the young, somewhat spoiled daughter of the wealthy Pantalone, is played by Leonora Surian, who pretends to be ill because she is in love with her doctor. A series of comedic situations leads to the resolution of her ‘imaginary illness’ only when Rosaura finally gets what she wanted… the doctor!
For director Saša Broz, this is her first collaboration with HNK Ivana pl. Zajca. The performance is conceived as a dress rehearsal, intertwining Goldoni’s story with a series of private situations of the actors portraying Goldoni’s roles.
‘The Imaginary Invalid’, written by Carlo Goldoni in 1750, is one of the sixteen comedies the author wrote during one season to provoke the Venetian audience, which had booed his comedy ‘The Happy Heir’ the previous year. ‘The Imaginary Invalid’ has never been performed in Croatian, but it has had several successful productions in Italian drama.
The director is Saša Broz, and the cast includes Bruno Nacinovich, Leonora Surian, Elena Brumini, Toni Plešić, Giulio Settimo, Giorgio Amodeo, Rosanna Bubola, Giuseppe Nicodemo, Elvia Nacinovich, Miriam Monica, and Alida Delcaro.
