Where (and why at all) for New Year’s Eve

The universe is extremely unpredictable, except in cases when it is not. New Year’s Eve can take various forms, but it is always easy to recognize. Practicing counting to ten, but backwards, is certainly one of the signs. Then there is the obligatory excited cheering because the clock struck midnight, even though it does so on the other 364 days, or nights. Let’s add to that the New Year’s greetings, which imply that it is already happy even though it lasts less than an hour, and the basis is clear. 

1. Playboy New Year

Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
For whom: All those who celebrate the New Year without a ring on their finger
What to bring: a nice outfit, a wide smile, and a bunch of dollars

Despite reports of financial problems plaguing Hugh Hefner, the gentleman in his years still knows how to have fun. Those with deeper pockets, eager for entertainment, can celebrate the New Year at the Playboy Club in glittering Las Vegas. For those who don’t mind spending hours in an airplane, the reward comes in the form of the company of six Playboy Playmates of the Month who are sure to be at the New Year’s celebration. A full-access ticket costs $475 and allows unlimited consumption of selected fine drinks, and of course, a view of the lush silicone breasts of the young ladies who bear the title of Playmate. The interior, if anyone is interested in the walls, is completely tasteless, gaudy, and awful… So, the place is ideal for male groups looking for an exceptional time.

2. Deutschland iber alles

Where: Berlin, Germany
For whom: All those whose first association with Germany is not guest workers
What to bring: a scarf and sunglasses

An extremely large selection of clubs and a large number of cheap flights connecting Croatia with Berlin will make many consider Germany as a place where they want to celebrate 2011. There is music for every taste, although electronic music somehow imposes itself. Clubs like Tresor, which was the first to introduce techno music to Germans living on our so close eastern side; or White Trash, which imitates Americans to the extent that even the staff speaks English, will certainly attract those eager to party. It should be remembered that Berlin can be quite cold, so it is advisable to dress warmly, and all those who will party from midnight to noon know that sunglasses come in handy for hiding January 1st dark circles.

3. Sexy Spain

Where: Jaen, Spain
For whom: Liberal couples eager for a hot New Year
What to bring: interesting underwear and condoms

Costa Adult, as its name suggests, is a resort for adults only. Located in Spain, near Malaga, along with all the classic hotel amenities, such as conference rooms and tennis courts, this hotel also offers some, well, somewhat unusual features – such as spaces for swingers. With 144 rooms and an area of 100,000 square meters, they claim to be the largest hedonistic resort in Europe. Guests who are not swingers are also welcome, although management notes that they should not be bothered by nudity and free sexual behavior. Of course, like any hotel, this one has rules, so drugs are strictly prohibited, as is paying for sex, and nudists must dress in some parts of the hotel. Who likes it…

4. Tunisia for everyone

Where: Any resort
For whom: married couples who do not want to spend much
What to bring: sunscreen and toilet paper

Those who do not know where to go, go where everyone else does. In recent years, arrangements for Tunisia have become as common as those for Crikvenica, so more and more Croats are going to the desert. New Year’s Eve at one of these destinations always has its advantages – returning with a tan is certainly one of them. The trip is not expensive, there will probably be some neighbor or former classmate in the group, and overall it is a decent choice. A spouse not inclined to risks will not complain much, as towels folded into swans always impress traditionalists. However, marital idyll and romance could be disrupted by intestinal infections, which many unaccustomed people acquire in those areas, so a roll of toilet paper should always be close.

5. Gorski Kotar – winter idyll

For whom: Lovers who are newly together
What to bring: Romantic feelings and thermal socks
New relationships always carry a dose of insatiability, romance, a need for isolation, and a tendency towards simplicity. Lovers often wouldn’t even leave the bedroom if they didn’t have to go to work, so celebrating the New Year is the ideal opportunity to escape from friends, relatives, phones, and other disruptors of newfound happiness. A cabin in Gorski Kotar, a warm fire, and a bed will be quite enough for lovers’ happiness, as they only want to enjoy each other. Moreover, those who have a legal partner will not risk being seen by someone who shouldn’t and getting into trouble. All in all, a celebration tailored for many, although perhaps not for those with circulation problems.
