In Zagreb, the construction of only 1,192 apartments was completed in the first nine months of this year, which is 60 percent less than in the same period last year when 2,980 apartments were completed, according to data from the Department of Statistics of the City Office for Strategic Planning and Development.
The significant decline in apartment construction in Zagreb is also indicated by the data on the reduction in the number of apartments under construction. The number of unfinished apartments stands at 2,032, which is 52.4 percent less than in the same period in 2009 when there were 4,269 apartments under construction. The total value of completed construction works and materials used, including residential construction in Zagreb, amounted to 6.47 billion kuna in the first nine months of this year. Of the total value, the works carried out by construction companies with their own workers amounted to 3.8 billion kuna, while the value of works performed with subcontractors was 2.66 billion kuna.
Of the works carried out by construction companies with their own workers, 1.6 billion kuna relates to works on buildings, and 2.2 billion kuna to other constructions. Comparing the data for the first nine months of this year with those published a year ago for the same period last year, it appears that the value of completed construction works in the three quarters of this year was 27.5 percent lower. New orders for construction works in Zagreb in the first three quarters of this year are worth 3.33 billion kuna. Of this, 56.9 percent relates to buildings, and 43.1 percent to other constructions. The amount of new orders in the first nine months of this year is 51.8 percent lower compared to the same period last year when it amounted to 6.9 billion kuna. (H)
