Croatian Tobacco, a company within the Adris Group, today made a one-time payment of over 31 million kuna to its cooperatives for this year’s crop, in accordance with the contract for 2010.
In line with plans, preparations are underway for contracting production for 2011, the company announced. It is also emphasized that the purchase of this year’s tobacco crop in the raw material areas of Croatian Tobacco in Slavonia and Podravina has been completed. A total of 7,336 tons of Virginia and 688 tons of Burley have been purchased, which is 23 percent less than last year’s yield due to extremely unfavorable weather conditions. Croatian Tobacco states that despite the crisis, they have maintained the price of tobacco at last year’s level, averaging 9.86 kuna per kilogram, and due to increased production costs, the company will also pay its cooperatives an additional kuna per kilogram for the quality and sorting of tobacco, totaling over 8 million kuna. The total value of this year’s tobacco production amounts to over 79 million kuna. (H)
