Knopso Company Wins Prime Minister’s Web Award

Today, at the VIDI awards in the Regent Esplanade hotel in Zagreb, awards were presented for the most innovative Croatian high-tech solutions, the best Croatian websites, and the Prime Minister’s web award for 2010.

VIDI e-novation award
High-tech innovations aimed at improving the healthcare system and enhancing the quality of life, such as Ericsson’s Mobile Health, the diagnostic concept for 4D thermography from the Ruđer Bošković Institute, and the mobile application for combating obesity, Tap & Track by Nanobit, won the VIDI e-novation awards as the most innovative high-tech solutions in the ICT field.

The young programming duo from Nanobit seized the opportunity that arose with the popularization of mobile platforms and dominated the Apple App Store with their Tap & Track application. The calorie tracking application won the Golden Tesla Egg in the small and medium-sized enterprises category, and it is used by over 300,000 people, primarily in the USA. The Mobile Health system from Ericsson Nikola Tesla, which won in the large companies category, enables remote monitoring of chronic patients using a mobile communication device that requires minimal user knowledge from patients and is easy to use by professionals. – The application of this innovation would have very significant positive effects on the healthcare system and the potential for savings between 20 and 30 percent, stated Boris Drilo, Director of ICT Solutions at Ericsson Nikola Tesla. A significant step forward in medical diagnostics was made by scientists from the Ruđer Bošković Institute, who won the Tesla Golden Egg in the academic institutions category. Their 4D thermographic system can greatly enhance the early detection of malignant diseases. It provides the ability to see and capture things that could not previously be detected using a completely non-invasive method.

Prime Minister’s Web Award for 2010
The highest recognition for internet solutions in Croatia, the Prime Minister’s web award, was won by the concept of Knopso for its eponymous web solution. The idea that someone else pays for our online orders instead of us is truly brilliant. This is exactly the project conceived by Knopso. Through Knopso, we pay bills by reading ads, while advertisers take care of paying the bills in real money. This innovative model has turned the traditional relationship between advertisers and customers upside down and was created to solve journalism problems. – The basic idea of this project is that value has a price. By applying this concept, people choose higher quality content that they will pay for, but not themselves, rather the advertisers. In return, they will need to read the advertisement. This concept excludes the subconscious marketing to which we are all exposed and allows for exclusive and quality content of news articles. Investigative journalism produces value. A system in which someone creates value but cannot monetize it is unsustainable, stated Mislav Malenica, General Director of Knopso. This exceptionally innovative project also received the Silver Tesla Egg in the small and medium-sized enterprises category at the VIDI e-novation competition. (Zlatko Salahović)
