GFI, a security software manufacturer, has reported the emergence of a new type of fraud that is not aimed at typical Internet users but rather at merchants on Amazon, a popular online shopping website.
According to a statement from Christopher Boyd of GFI, the starting point of the attack is an HTML generator that forges invoices to look like those related to Amazon merchants. The tool allows a potential attacker to fill out a form with information such as što are account number, product name, and customer address, and based on this data, create a new account. Fraudsters can use the fake account to convince merchants that their goods were not delivered or to request a serial code for some software. Boyd states that merchants can detect the fraud by thoroughly checking the account number and other details. He warns that this scam will be very popular during the holiday season and urges sellers to be cautious. (www.cert.hr)
