Tokophobia or fear of childbirth has existed since time immemorial, but experts have only recently begun to pay attention to this psychological problem as more and more women wish to give birth via cesarean section.
British doctors were the first to warn of the alarming rise of tokophobia among women who have already given birth. Research in hospitals in the United Kingdom shows that one in six women is afraid of childbirth. Global statistics are only slightly encouraging: according to them, one in seven women suffers from this psychological problem. No one has yet researched how many women in Croatia suffer from tokophobia, but data from the Croatian Institute of Public Health shows that each year, more and more births end in cesarean sections. Experts attribute the reasons for this trend to a modern lifestyle that emphasizes a comfortable life. In order to eliminate discomfort and pain as much as possible, modern women opt for advanced medical methods that assist them in this or simply forgo childbirth altogether. How women can confront this fear, how their environment helps them in this, and what experts say, can be read in the new issue of Lider trend from December 10.
