According to a report published on the Mashable blog, the popular social network Twitter has been infected with a worm that is being distributed through Twitter’s mobile applications and shortened URLs generated by the Goo.gl service.
Specifically, the “Twitter bird” has been infected with the worm, which spreads via the shortened URL “goo.gl/R7f68”, and there are indications that there are other URLs as well. Many messages appear on the microblogging site, which careless users open, and then they are redirected to the website of the French furniture manufacturer Artcan Developpement, which has allegedly been compromised. The user is then redirected again to various infected websites filled with malicious scripts. Twitter support representative Troy Holden stated that they are aware of the issue and that a procedure has been initiated to generate new passwords for affected users. Various reports indicate that some messages come from fake (spam) accounts, while allegedly other messages are sent from real Twitter accounts owned by their users, making it possible for the worm to spread and send messages from currently infected accounts. As of this moment, it is known that all suspicious messages are arriving from the mobile version of Twitter, the Mashable blog reports. (www.cert.hr)
