In October, Croatia had 1.2 percent fewer employed

In Croatia, there were a total of 1,405,923 employed in October, which is 16,613 persons or 1.2 percent less than in September, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

The number of employed in legal entities in October decreased by 8,155 or 0.7 percent compared to September, so that legal entities employed 1,148,008 persons at the end of October. In crafts and liberal professions, there were 226,059 employed in October, which is 3.6 percent or 8,509 persons less than in September. The number of insured agricultural workers in October was 31,856, or 0.2 percent more than in the previous month, according to data that DZS obtained from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute. The number of unemployed increased by 5.2 percent on a monthly basis, and at the end of October, there were 304,479 unemployed registered in Croatia. The registered unemployment rate increased from 16.9 percent in September to 17.8 percent in October. Statistics on the movement of the number of employed in legal entities show that in 15 activities, the number of employed decreased on a monthly basis, while it increased in two – in education by 1.7 percent and in health care and social welfare activities by 0.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, the largest decline in employment was recorded in the accommodation and food service activities, by 8.7 percent. Annual statistics show that the number of employed in legal entities decreased by 4.3 percent, with a more pronounced decline in the manufacturing industry, trade, and especially construction. In legal entities engaged in the manufacturing industry, there were 216,260 employed in October, which is a decrease of 5 percent compared to October of last year. With 188,520 employed, wholesale and retail trade recorded a decrease in the number of employed compared to last October by 5.5 percent. The activity with a pronounced decline in the number of employed is construction – legal entities in construction employed 87,383 workers in October of this year, which is 14.8 percent less than in October last year. According to DZS data, the number of employed in legal entities in October of this year compared to the same month last year increased in only two activities, in administrative and support service activities by 2 percent and in education by 0.7 percent.
