The European Union banned on Tuesday flights in its airspace by companies from Afghanistan and Mauritania Airways, deeming them unsafe.
The Ghanaian airline, Air Lift International, has been granted permission to fly in the EU with one aircraft, the European Commission announced. "We cannot compromise when it comes to air traffic safety," said Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, presenting the 16th revision of the "black list" of airlines banned from flying in the EU. The new list includes 276 air carriers from 19 countries. (H)
