Today, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare held the awarding of scholarships to the second generation of beneficiaries of the humanitarian action Step into Life. ‘It is a special pleasure to know that we have helped someone take their first step in life and become an academic member of the community,’ said Romano Bolković from the Rotary Club Zagreb Kaptol.
At the initiative of the Rotary Club Zagreb Kaptol, the humanitarian action Step into Life began in 2008 with the aim of funding higher education for young people leaving homes for unprotected children and foster families throughout their regular study years. Over the two years of its operation, many Croatian companies, numerous well-known names from Croatian sports, music, and culture, as well as citizens, have supported the humanitarian action with financial resources. This year’s scholarships have provided for 28 students, bringing the total number of scholarships awarded by the Step into Life action to 61. – This is hope, security for the boys and girls in high school that they will also be thought of. It is up to you to just work – said Slaven Bilić, the spokesperson for the action, adding that this is the most humanitarian action of its kind in Croatia. – On my personal behalf, and on behalf of friends and colleagues of the beneficiaries from children’s homes and foster families, I would like to thank you for the great help and support you have provided us to be who we are and to be even better – said Damir Balaban, a scholarship recipient from the first generation of the action. The humanitarian action Step into Life continues this year and will be accompanied by a Facebook campaign. For every ‘like’ on the Facebook group Step into Life, sponsors of the humanitarian action Step into Life donate 1 kuna. The finale of this year’s humanitarian action will be a concert by Leo Nucci at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on December 14, 2010. (K. D.)
