Euro Disney Reduces Loss

Euro Disney reported on Wednesday that it reduced its loss by 28 percent in the recently concluded fiscal year, to 39.9 million euros (54.8 million dollars), partly due to increased visitor spending at the Paris theme park.

In the fiscal year that ended in September, total revenues rose by 3.7 percent to 1.27 billion dollars, while tourist revenues remained unchanged at 1.26 billion euros, according to the company’s statement. The number of theme park visitors fell by 2.6 percent to 15 million in the last fiscal year, while hotel occupancy dropped by 1.9 percentage points to 85.4 percent. Average spending per tourist increased by 2.4 percent to 45.30 euros, and daily spending per hotel room rose by 4.2 percent to 209.78 euros. The company reported that it achieved its targeted increase in spending per visitor in the fiscal year 2009/2010, while in the corresponding previous period the focus was on overall spending. (H)
