General growth forecasts for the tourism sector worldwide are not the most positive, but Croatia can hope for at least two events in the upcoming season.
The UNWTO meeting intended for tourism journalists is set to take place for the first time in September right here in our country, and following the meeting between UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai and Minister of Tourism Damir Bajs at the WTM fair in London, a gathering aimed at better connecting the region has also been announced. – Your results this year are better than our expectations, and if you achieve even the same results next year as you did this year, it will be excellent – said Rifai while discussing Croatian tourism. Speaking about general data, Rifai stated that global tourism has grown this year at a rate of seven percent, a figure that should not be viewed with great optimism considering that this growth is measured against the poor year of 2009. However, a bright spot is that in the first eight months of this year, the number of international tourists reached figures from the pre-crisis year of 2008. In the next year, global tourism is expected to grow by three to four percent. (T.B)
