The American software giant Microsoft has reported that in the three months ending September, it achieved record revenues and profits thanks to sales growth across all business segments.
In the first fiscal quarter ending September 30, the Seattle-based company recorded a profit of $7.12 billion, 59 percent higher than in the same quarter of 2009. Revenues simultaneously surged 25 percent to $16.2 billion."It was an extraordinary quarter in which we achieved solid business growth and continued strong demand for our operating systems Office 2010 and Windows 7, as well as Xbox 360 consoles and games," said Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein."The fact that we were able to continue to record revenue growth while keeping costs under control has brought us yet another quarter of margin expansion year-over-year," he added. The Office 2010 operating system achieved a 15 percent revenue growth in its first full quarter on the market, while demand for the Windows 7 operating system continued to grow thanks to "healthy and sustainable cycle of business personal computer refreshes," Microsoft stated. The popularity of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 consoles remains strong, especially in the American market, with sales growth of 38 percent compared to last year."We are seeing a recovery in corporate demand," said Chief Executive Officer Kevin Turner. "Consumer demand and excitement around our commercial online services and cloud computing continues to grow." (H)
