The French digital security company, Keynetics, has introduced a revolutionary product designed for the verification of electronic passports, reports the portal cert.hr.
This is the ‘National Public Key Directory’ (nPKD) which enables airport officials to quickly verify the authenticity of smart chips and national electronic seals issued by member countries of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Using Keynetics software, it can be determined from which country the embedded electronic seal on the passport originates, which is stored in the international database of issued keys (nPKD). The new product also allows for the verification of whether the chips are damaged or have been altered in any way, greatly assisting in identity control. Sequoia, the public key infrastructure (PKI) support software from the same company, has been certified with the highest rating (CC EAL4+) by the French National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI). The agency’s deputy director, Michael Benedittini, emphasizes that public key security systems are the foundation for developing public trust in electronic government (e-government). (M.N.)
