In Focus: HT and Petrokemija

Due to the lack of news from the domestic business sector and cautious trading on global markets, subdued trading is expected today on the Zagreb Stock Exchange, with modest turnover.

Of the 10 analysts from brokerage firms who participated in Hina’s survey, 8 expect stagnation of the Crobex today, while 2 expect a decline. The Crobex index strengthened slightly by 0.18 percent yesterday, reaching 1,906 points, while Crobex10 weakened by 0.05 percent to 1,001 points. Regular turnover reached 11.5 million kuna, što je otprilike 3 milijuna manje nego u petak.„Since investors on global exchanges are awaiting new moves from the Fed related to monetary policy and the business results of companies for the third quarter, they are relatively disinterested in investing in stocks. The same is true for the domestic market, where I expect similar trading today as yesterday and a continuation of low turnover“, says Nada Harambašić, chief financial analyst at Raiffeisen Consulting.

Alongside HT shares, Petrokemija shares could still be in focus for investors, with 1.9 million kuna traded yesterday and a price increase of 2.6 percent to 161 kuna. Encouraging signals are not coming from global exchanges. On Wall Street, leading indices remained almost unchanged on Monday, as investors are cautious ahead of the release of a series of macroeconomic data and quarterly business reports from companies. In Asian markets, stock prices fell this morning, particularly in Japan, where investors are concerned about the high yen exchange rate against the dollar, which is harming the local economy. The recent drop in the dollar’s exchange rate against the yen to the lowest levels in 15 years at 81.37 yen, and the verbal war between China and the USA over exchange rates, are prompting investors to be cautious. European markets also saw stock prices weaken at the start of trading this morning. (H)
